The scone convention is a source of near civil war between Devon and Cornwall over which order the jam and cream should go on! I will not comment in the interests of keeping the peace. π
Devon style: Cream first, then jam on top. The logic: the cream acts like butter, and jam is the topping. Often clotted cream is used, thick enough to spread easily.
Cornwall style: Jam first, then cream on top. The reasoning: it's more like a fruit preserve base with cream as the indulgent topping.
I am still trying to pick up on the in-jokes here and way behind the curve but I understand Brandon Erlich loathes olives and Victor Cardenas has a similar loathing of pickles but I may have got this wrong! The running joke crops up in some of the many Notes. π
I heard Peter Murphy talking about olives and pickles with someone but I had no clue what the point was. Emma Horsedick was a bot generating tons of comments until SS removed the account, I found out.
Thanks for the mention.
I think you will enjoy Substack very much. And remind me the scone convention?

Well, what a conundrum! I could easily vote for both. And I like both Devon and Cornwall so now I can do the proper thing. Thank you!
Me too Debra, Who cares if there is a cream tea involved, and both countries are indeed great! π
Whatβs about olives and pickles? I think I donβt spend enough time on SS to be as knowledgeable as you are. π

Thanks for the recognition! I do sometimes wonder if the things I post go into the void... it is lovely to see someone out there is reading.
Oh and LOL:
"For starters, we have the ubiquitous David Perlmutter
with:
βCan you write a coherent sentence in the English language?β
Thatβs me stuffed then."
Appreciate the mention! Hereβs an em dash for your troubles β use it wisely.
